Once you black out the question mark on the cover to correct the glaring editorial mistake, the latest issue of TIME Magazine included a 50 Best Inventions section for 2009.
Then, they had a Five Worst Inventions list:
The Gas-Mask Bra You have to admire the good intentions of the inventor who made a bra that converts handily into a pair of gas masks
It also won an Ig Nobel award this year.
I, for one, think Dr. Elena Bodnar is absolutely brilliant.
Her research is the result of the tragedy of Ukraine during the Chernobyl disaster, and it can be applied to other situations where access to a gas mask on short notice is a matter of life and death.
The first country that comes to mind is Israel.
The gas masks that are distributed there are not all that handy, need special storage, and require occasional service.
Bodnar's invention, on the other hand, solves a lot of those problems.
Hrm... considering TIME's anti-Israeli/anti-Semitic/pro-Palestinian/pro-Terrorist editorial stance as of late, it's not surprising to see TIME take the time to ridicule and denigrate the utility and brilliance of this creation.
Here's hoping that in the future, some jihadi lunatic gasses the TIME editorial offices, and the staff are left clutching at their throats, spending their last moments wishing they had bra gas masks available to save their miserable, wretched lives.
(Me, I'll just settle for them all to get downsized and the magazine folded once and for all.)
What about a gas-mask kippa for the men?

Soon you and I will be paying to support the likes of Time magazine. Just my opinion - I could be wrong.....

I fully agree. Israeli army and police consist of up to 48% of women....A little science: this simple mask is just an emergency device and not a specialized gas mask. It can work great filtering out aerosolized and dust particles. With a HEPA insert might be very efficient for nm-sized particles. Speaking in probabilistic terms, it is available in any emergency with probability close to ONE (!). Even if the efficiency is 30-40-50%, still, overall efficiency/availability is 30-40-50. Tell me what is probability of availability of specialized gas masks and gowns? Close to ZERO in real emergency. By the way, kippa will work great too!
TIME writers tried to mimic a brilliant IgNobel idea, but, to my opinion, failed miserably.
In addition, I think smile scanners are great, based on state of the art programming and should be installed at TIME HQ at the entrance...
