Nardo and his yellow mousie

When you read things like this:

Well, a long time ago, in a year far away, the immortal Laurence Simon became known as "King of the Cat Bloggers" for starting the Carnival of the Cats.

His idea was for a weekly confab of the best of the week’s cat blogging posts about cats from bloggers all around the world.

People who normally blog about anything and everything, as well as the emerging Community of Cat Bloggers, enter their week’s best cat related blog posts into the carnival.

For those who rarely share stories about their cats, it’s a vacation from blogging about such things as politics, war...and knitting.

I like how Laurence explains it: This is a way of "demonstrating that even the mightiest and meekest of pundits have a love of cats in common."

For us Cat Bloggers the Carnival is a chance to discover blogs we might never have heard of, on subjects of all kinds.

When Time Magazine takes notice of you, and of the growing Community you are a part of, as they did Laurence and his Carnival, then you know your effort, and the world you are helping spread the word about, are making an important impact in the lives of people, and Cats, everywhere.

In 2007 the King relinquished his responsibilities for running this show to The Cat Blogoshere, where it continues on its merry way.

Well, it just feels a little weird sometimes.

Here's our resident old fart - the lat cat standing - and the ragged yellow mousie he's had since he was a kitten:

nardo in the morning

Nardo's getting a bit noisier and pest-like, considering that he's now dependent on harassing the humans to fulfill his bully quota for the day.

The upstairs neighbors got a cute kitty of their own recently, and he's been poking out the window and looking down.

I picked up Nardo to say Hi.

He said something other than Hi.

I don't think the plan to let him babysit a kitten to see if he's compatible with a young itnerloper to keep him company and feeling young is going to work.

Be sure to check out The Friday Ark and then Carnival of the Cats on Sunday.

plum:

Hi Nardo. Tell daddy to please turn the cat-cams back on.

ahriman:

Nardo still has his yellow mousie. That really cheered me up today :)

"Something other than hi..."

Oh,yeah. I remember the time when I, a tender innocent youth, found the cute baby bunny that had strayed from its Mommy, and brought it home for my kitty to nurture and play with...

That was when I learned that cats are, first and foremost, vicious predatory thugs.

Not that I don't love them....

Dear Mr. Simon,

I am honored that you thought enough of what this feline wrote to share it with your readers.

When Daddy came home and heard me purring even louder than usual, he asked me why.

He says to let you know that you might remember him (and me , too!) from his old blog, that he retired after 5 years last October...Sneakeasy's joint. ;-D

New directions have made blogging fresh, and exciting for the both of us. ;-D

When my neighbor rescued a several-months-old kitten two years ago, she kept it in a separate room for a month so that her mature Siamese, who had bullied her previous housemate for years, would have plenty of time to get used to the idea and, presumably, to the fact that her mommy loved the new kitten, too.

Of course, a lot depends on the younger cat's personality -- the new cat stood up for herself and wouldn't let the older cat bully her -- and the availability of the humans to prevent conflict. It wasn't easy, but two cats eventually worked it out and now get along. The fact that they are indoor-outdoor cats may have helped as well.
