Where are the scratch-off cards?

Your tax dollars are being wasted on Mariachi bands to celebrate the opening of... a transit office.

The doors to the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County's new Metro Solutions' North Corridor office opened Jan. 12 to the beat of Davis High School's mariachi band, a performance by the school's Ballet Folklorico dance group and a parking lot full of residents and elected officials who represent Houston's Northside neighborhood.

Officials said the office at 2613 Fulton will serve as a focal point for residents and business owners during the construction of the 5.4-mile light rail line from the University of Houston-Downtown to Northline Mall, which should break ground in the spring.

They're celebrating somewhere that people will go to bitch at people who don't give a shit?

What the fuck is wrong with this city?

(Thanks, Kevin!)

Those are school programs. Thats bringing culture and activity, discipline and fun to kids who might just use those skills later to become outstanding members of your community. Plus the arts programs were already paid for so you're actually getting more for your tax dollars by having them perform at openings. sure, there's the cost of diesel to get the kids to the transit station but when one of those kids gets a music scholarship instead of a govt. grant or student loan, you've saved money on this deal.

Plus how awesome is it that they have mariachi bands in your school?!? All we had was a marching band that sucked and a jazz band that was uh... better than the marching band anyway.

Christina Peterpaul:

Proceeds that come from lottery winnings go to help children get involved in music and art culture. This is positive reinforcement to a child. If you become a lottery winner, you should give a portion to charity to help others.
