Sounds like the free market at work to me... $200.00 for a work-alike, non-WinTel computer, or $350.00 for the genuine WinTel article.
I don't see this as different from the open source vs. proprietary battle here in the US. Yes, Negropointe has been trying to do a good thing, but his problem now is to sell it in a competitive marketplace.
And the kids still get their laptops.
