Downtown Blues

Apparently, METRO believes that everybody who uses their transit system goes Downtown.

Guess what? They're wrong:

Houston Chronicle correspondent Cindy Bellomy lives in Katy and works in Greenway Plaza, and boy, was she mad at the Metropolitan Transit Authority.

Bellomy said "a Metro guy" told her that after Jan. 31 she no longer would be able get a paper transfer when she paid the fare with her stored-value card, which had $75 credit left on it.

She also saw this message printed on the back of her transfer: "Starting January 31, 2008, the Day Pass will no longer be sold. Bus transfers will ONLY be available with a Q Card."

Then she learned that she would have to come all the way to Metro headquarters, 1900 Main, to transfer any unused value from her old card to a new Q Card.

"I do not work downtown, never go downtown," she said. "There are many, many of us."

The Lee P. Brown Glass Palace Of Arrogance strikes again!

UPDATE:
But, of course, they can deploy huggers.

Morons.
