Menorah

Doesn't my menorah look pretty?

Okay, so that belongs to Rahel.

Mine, which she gave me, is a sloppy, oil-soaked mess with burnt-out failed wicks and burnt cat hair.

I won't post any photos of it, but I will show off Nardo's electric menorah in the catcams.

Whoa. I had a moment of disorientation there.

So how can I help?

I got them lit just fine last night.

The trick is to pre-soak the wicks in the oil for an hour.

But I still make a mess. Because I'm a sloppy, sloppy Jew.

Oh, funny!

I set up my menorah the night before, right after the lights have finished burning (well, except on Friday night), so the new wicks have all night and most of the next day to soak in the oil before it's time to light them. They light up right away. But I confess that the real reason I set the lights up so early is that I enjoy looking at the prepared menorah throughout the evening and next day.

I've also found that filling the glass cups about two-thirds full of water helps to keep things neat, though it makes for a loud crackling noise when the flame has used up nearly all the oil.

Dang it! I was just thinking how I had to comment on what an awesome (yes, child of the 80's sorry) Menorah you had and you go and confess it's not yours.

How in the world are you ever going to convert me with effort like that? :-)

mog:

Initial impression no way, I have a nice big pic of that menorah on my desktop I snagged off Rahel's site. Gotta have some respite from the kittycats.
