Carnival of the Cats #198

Just in case you need reminding:

The Carnival of the Cats is a weekly roundup of cat-related posts on weblogs. Its purpose is to provide a non-political respite from the vehement echo chamber that the Blogosphere spins itself into during the week, demonstrating that even the mightiest and meekest of pundits have a love of cats in common.

tree top

If you had not have fallen
Then I would not have found you
Angel flying too close to the ground
And I patched up your broken wing
And hung around a while
Tried to keep your spirits up
While you were feelin' down
I knew someday that you would fly away
For love's the greatest healer to be found
So leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground
Fly on, fly on past the speed of sound
I'd rather see you up
Than see you down
Leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground

- Willie Nelson

Let's get started.

Post of the week: this one. Wraps up my sentiments for catblogging and all my other online ventures exactly.

In the House of Chaos, we learn how the entire brood is getting along and who is playing with whom. (Should the day come that we need to go searching for new cats to bring into our lives, I'm sure we will try to get a family of cats together.)

Down at the Texas Oasis on a Purrsday Night, we learn that even cats get to retire when their life's work is done.

Watermark gives us a year in review of the visitor cats. Always have an extra plate ready, I always say. Oh, and keep the elves away from electrical cords, too.

Amber is back in the bedroom, despite the toy-humping the boys are doing in her presence.

Perfectly Parker shows why treats are so good. Who am I to disagree?

As we wander through the Elms in the Yard, we come across a colony of cats at play and rest.

If only they had hunting at the Y, i might just work out often more than I do, I guess. Still, walking a bit extra every day has helped in a low-impact workout sense.

Over at the Labkat, Christmas has left an uncertain visitor among the cats, and they're curious.

Even our Maximum Leader is putting together a Christmas card for all her minions to enjoy.

Did you have mealoaf for Christmas? blog d'Elisson appears to have been had by a meatload for Christmas.

Do you ever think that Dragonheart gets tired of hearing "Where's your hair?" over and over and over? I know I am, but it keeps growing back after a few months.

Time to add another retelling of the classic Christmas tale: Twas The Night Before Meezermas.

Has it really been one year of Artsy Catsy? It appears so, and we get a message from... the humans?

Get your haiku on, people!

How many cats cat you fit on your bed? Well, seven according to No Deep Thoughts, but one's a fake! A fake!

Eric and Flynn head to the hay loft for Sunday morning.

Getting into the spirit of the season is easy at Anniemiz, just put on some jingly holiday collars, right? Well... um... not really.

Just in case you need a reminder as to why you shouldn't get your cat clothes for Christmas.

The tables have turned... at StrangeRanger Ivy is the happy and content one while Maddie is being the grump! Has the world gone mad?

More post-Christmas play at This That and the Other Thing in case you're wondering how long cats will play with their toys and gifts after they get them. Pretty much the same as kids, it appears.

Even though your camera doesn't have sound, it is still important to white-balance it. Marilyn Mon-REOW can help with that.

For more camera testing, Jasper suggests eyes and noses.

Here's something new you don't see every day: The Cat Bible in progress. Get your theologically-inspired photos over there and get on the ground floor of this exciting testament to catty goodness.

I've got sunshine and a black cat on a... well, it's not a cloudy day? Better find out more at Composite Drawings.

Rosie had to wait for Christmas to come, but once the humans return, she gets a lot to do to clean up in more ways than one.

Beau's Blog has an accounting of all the wonderful things that Santa Paws has left for him for the holiday. Those look delicious!

Not quite Toonces The Driving Cat, but Baby The Backseat Driver Cat.

Want Bazel and Jezi? They're famous, you know. Famous... for wrecking things!

Know what's even scarier than those elf-yourself sites? Doing it for real. Oh well. There's always therapy (for you and the cat).

Willowcat has the right attitude towards those costumes. Why is a fur coat not enough for some people?

And just because your own cats won't let you dress them up, do you really have to inflict it on the cats of your kids? Just. Not. Right. For shame!

Anybody else facing a diet? Well, life from a cat's perspective has that challenge as well.

One-eyed Jack shows off all the loot he and his family got for Christmas.

More best-of-the-year photos from Cat Synth.

Bonnie and Victor continue the photo hunt with a sleepy time snapshot.

One word from Ballicious: SQWUEEK!

I did not want to include this post offering me an award for all I've done for catblogging. I feel that this past year of holding on to the Carnival and not putting the full effort into it as it deserves has done cat-blogging a disservice, and y'all know how stubborn I can be about refusing to accept praise for what I consider to be my failures.

Hopefully, handing to off to Mom Robyn and the House of Mostly Black Cats will give this institution a shot in the butt that it richly deserves.

Thanks to everyone for participating through the years, there's too many people to thank to thank here... too many to remember. Y'all know who you are.

Keep an eye on carnivalofthecats.com for announcements and changes. They'll be happening soon.

Have a great 2008, y'all. And stay tuned for tomorrow's unusual podcast project. It involves all my blogging and online efforts the past year to some extent, and it may come as a shock to some, while it comes as no surprise to others.

Thanks for all your work for catblogging, Laurence. And thanks for another great carnival.

Dear Laurence,

Thank you for a great carnival. We are all so buff here (after working out at the Y) that we may just fall asleep before we can read all the entries. So, we'll be back tomorrow.

Seriously, thank you for keeping the Carnival of the Cats going for so long, and for passing the baton on to others. May the Great Cat bless you and yours.

GREAT carnival, Laurence. I hope you'll keep sending photos of Nardo and Frisky to Robyn for future COTCs.

I had no new photos of Grace & Company to send in since I've been gone for a week or so. Maybe next week!

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrssssssssssss from Grace & Company

Thanks Laurence for this Wonderful Carnival! We have enjoyed them all since we started blogging! Thanks for passing it on and enjoy your next ventures!
Your FL furiends,

An excellent valedictory Carnival.

Laurence, the Carnival will go on without your holding the reins - as it must - but your inspiration and high standards will, I hope, stay with it. Please be sure we continue to get our Nardo and Frisky fixes. Ave atque vale!

Cheers to the COTC!

I will always remember your warm welcome to the Friday Ark almost 3 1/2 years ago. It was also my introduction to the Carnival.

Just discovered your Friday roundup of petblogging links... mind if I add you to the Carnival of the Cats?

carnivalofthecats.com

Thanks,
-ls

Thanks for the COTC and all the rest that you have done and do!

Keep the kitty pics flowing,

Steve and all the weekly Ark boarders

Laurence, thank you for a lovely Carnival.

I also hope that you'll do a Carnival now and then in the future. But whether you do or don't, to me you will always be the king of catbloggers.

Skritches to Nardo and Frisky!

It took me a whole day to think of what I wanted to say. Still can't think of a thing, really, except: Great job, Laurence. Thanks. :)
Robyn

plum:

Most excellent ornamentation on the tree. Most excellent carnival. Hope there'll be many more to come. Happy new year to you and yours (prof. Frisky and Thumb-boy too!)
