I woke up this morning, knowing that I hadn't done the Carnival of the Cats the night before like I was supposed to have done.
I didn't think there'd be too many entires, since I didn't get to the server admin all that early in the week to clear up the mailbox issue.
Yadda yadda yadda... whatever... it'll get done eventually.
I know it's Labor Day Weekend, sure, but I had time for other things and got them done.
I vacuumed up a bit, did the dishwasher, loaded it up with the stuff in the sink... didn't fix the catcams...
By the time I got back to focusing on this thing, it was well past Noon.
Then I looked at the opening statement from the website:
The Carnival of the Cats is a weekly roundup of cat-related posts on weblogs. Its purpose is to provide a non-political respite from the vehement echo chamber that the Blogopshere spins itself into during the week, demonstrating that even the mightiest and meekest of pundits have a love of cats in common.
I was pondering whether I should hand this carnival off to someone else at the end of the year, and I'm feeling like that's going to be the right thing to do.
So, folks... how should I determine who gets control of this Carnival? Who should it be handed off to? Should it be an individual effort, or should I leave the door open for corporate-types to come in with suitcases full of cash?
The comments are open, but so is The Carnival Of The Cats for the 180th time...
Topaz and Drusy appear to be conducting sociological experiments in addition to testing the gravitational field of the earth.
Surfer Sam, which appears to be a commercial advice venture, offers up some advice on pet food. Normally, I'd toss these, but I figure folks might want to learn about the crap they're feeding their furry friends.
Ferdy the Conservative Cat is getting used to living without The Gremlin. By now, Nardo's gotten used to not having his little sister around to beat him up for being a jerk.
The Ghost of Shakespeare Garden is photographed for the first time ever! This is going to blow those photos of Bigfoot and Nessie out of the water!
Tummy Tuesday with one of the many tummies of Mog's. I miss doing these memes, but I've gotten caught up in so much else... I hope that whoever takes this thing over ends up promoting these better than I have.
Up on the curtain tops, the culprit cleans his paws and claws, satisfied with another day of destruction.
Wasn't there a Carnival of the Recipes? Since when did it get absorbed into Carnival of the Cats? I guess i need to try that Chicken Ka-Blamo out.... with Frisky and Nardo.
Ever get worried that you're tangled up in too many things?
The Big Asterisk Poetry Project starts off with... um... cat poetry?
Ivy was hiding from the camera this week, but Maddie's thinking (and napping) within the box.
Cat Synth recalls all the anniversaries this weekend, including the candle-lighting memorial that's swept through the cat-o-sphere.
Do you believe in magic? Well, A Magic Meezer should stupefy your mind with a simple act of levitation! (The trick explained)
Check the home page for the upcoming carnival schedule and any openings left for the rest of the year.
So, who is catmodel for the week?
It's Jezi the Kittyslut from Mind Of Mog.

Uh, hi! My Labor Day post must have gotten eaten by the Black Squirrels. Can you still add it in?

I forgot Meowza's entry, first post-Krissie hairball on the sofa, an ominous event. I had so hoped no one would do that.
Jezi will be thrilled at the honor.
As to the carnival, maybe the best thing is to hand it off to a dedicated cat blogger such as myself.

Here's my entries for the week: LOLCat and Because It's Friday
As for ownership of the carnival, I'd be leery of handing it off to corporate types. Pretty soon there would be accounts and signing in and mysterious spam emails offering dating services for your cats. I think it's best left to a catblogger.

What a tough decision you have... personally, I think if you hand it over to a corporate type of setting, the charm will be gone. COTC represents Edloe, Piper, Nardo and Frisky, and of course you Laurnce, and that in itself makes it appealing. My point, if any valid, the attraction is it comes from real people, with real cats. Some manufactured effort seems a scary thought. It's personal yet to the point. I would hate to see the COTC handed over to a "fast-food" quick fix mentality.
It must have a leader Kitty Cat and human to make it real ... yeah I am just tossing my 9 cents in, and we will always support whatever decisions you make, but we also understand your position too.
The COTC should be handed over to a Cat or group of Cats and cat lovers, if that is your decision. Anyhow... sigh. The CotC is the main reason I started Kitty Blogging.
Thanks for the roundup... Purrs from our Bad Kitty Cats

Hi Laurence,
I wondered what was up, when the Carnival didn't appear last night. Sadly, I know that I am not reliable enough (well enough) to take this on -- but I would be happy to go back on the hosting list, anytime.
The Carnival has been one of the pleasures of blogging for me, and I would be very sad to see it decline.

The last two I've sent in to the Carnival's email haven't made it into the Carnivals themselves, so here's the blog site:

I'm still making the transition in my head -- I have two kittens in adult cat bodies (plus their mommy, of course). How do they manage to do that?? =)
Enjoy them all!

The black squirrels or something ate the HotMBC one too. That's ok, though. Black squirrels happen.
The Cat Blogosphere would be happy to pick it up and give it a own home with the reporters taking care of it admin-wise. Or do what we can to help if an individual or other cat blogger group was taking care of it too. But COTC a la corporate just wouldn't be COTC.

Beware of handing it off to more than one person. Something that is a shared responsiblity is no one's responsibility.
If you don't take us up on our offer, The Scratching Post is more than willing to support anyone you hand it off to. I would bet everyone else feels the same way.

Lair, was this a ruse to lure GK out of hiding? Although I love all the moggie blogs, CotC just wouldn't be the same w/o the Simon stamp.

We love the Carnival of the Cats! We've never hosted it but we sometimes submit and frequently check it out. We would not vote for corporate sponsorship but really hope to see the Carnival remain active! Surely there is some wonderful person/cat combo with the energy to take it over properly. Perhaps the new host could have an "escape clause" so if things aren't going well, it automatically moves to someone else? We'll talk to our humans and see if we can contribute by hosting it sometime, if that would help.
