Question: The tins of cat food include pork. Is it permissible to buy them for cats?Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.Praise be to Allaah. We put this question to Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-'Uthaymeen, may Allaah preserve him, who answered as follows:
If you buy the tins, then it is not permissible, because it is not permissible to pay for pork and buy it. But if a person finds it by chance and feeds it to his cat, then there is nothing wrong with that. And Allaah knows best.
Abraham Lincoln:
I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it.

...but according to that one guy in Australia, women are like cat food.
So you can feed your ex-girlfriends to your cats.
Right?

I wonder what brand of cat food the inquirer is asking about. I realize that "meat by-products" on a list of ingredients can cover a lot of different animals, but I haven't seen pork listed on anything my kitties eat-- and fish, chicken, shrimp, salmon, crab, turkey, and beef liver are all listed separately.

I wonder whether Lincoln knew about Judaism's stance on the issue:
"I shall give grass in your field for your cattle" [Deuteronomy 11:15]: One is forbidden to eat before one gives food to one's animals since it is written: "I shall give grass in your field for your cattle" and afterwards: "and you shall eat and be satisfied."

Eagle Feline Holistic brand lists pork as an ingredient:
"Enhanced With 4 Protein Rich Meat Meals: Chicken, Pork and Anchovy & Sardine Meals"
I used to by their chicken 'reducing' formula until I compared the calorie content with other brands non-diet food and discovered it was actually the most fattening of all. No wonder kitty-cat liked it. :)

Ask the rabbi, and he'd answer:
Traif? No, no traif. Buy the cat kosher cat food, cheapskate. And call your mother.
