Only in IT

Lots of us are running off of a network install of Linux. It runs a lot better than the Windows installs on the desktops themselves. Very flexible. Fast.

The image server was reset this morning in the middle of the shift.

No warning. No announcement.

Just people stalling, standing up, looking around. That kind of thing.

Someone comes out with the "Um... err..." post-mortem.

But, hey. It could we worse.

We could be on Windows.

Ouch. Just... ouch. Here at Big Impersonal Communications Corporation, we are on Windoze... even our *nix access (HP-UX - not even a popular *nix...) from the Windows desktop blows.

I mean: Exchange? Exchange?!?!? Why not just rely on ant-generated chemical trails for communication? Jeez.

I miss my old SparcStation.
