RIAA Sues NASA For Illegal Distribution

HOUSTON, TX (IFOC) - The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) sued NASA today for copyright infringement and illegal distribution of copyrighted material.

"The majority of content encoded on the gold records sent along with Voyager I and II probes was not licensed for extra-galactic distribution," said RIAA CEO Mitch Bainwol. "We demand that NASA immediately launch missions to catch up with the Voyager I and II probes to either reclaim this intellectual property or destroy the copies."

NASA had been set to hold a press conference denying the charges of copyright infringement, but technical difficulties have pushed the press conference back three months to a tentative date of September 10, 2005.

Actually, I belive NASA did get permission for all of the recordings on the Voyager albums. They wanted to use the Beatles, but didn't because Columbia wouldn't let them.
